Carrying or skating ???

I was reading the comments left on this website about personal experiences of visitors etc...

One comment got me triggered and I thought of sharing it and getting your opinion. Mainly maybe snowboarders can answer but if its general rule that applies everywhere then please do join in.

They always teach you how to get on and get off chair lifts with your snowboards on...well since I have never traveled to foreign ski resorts and I dont know if this is a rule...but I always carry my board when waiting in queues because i hate it when skiers come on top of my board and scratch it or even prevent me from moving forward.

re: Carrying or skating ???

You see it happen, boarders carrying their boards on lifts... I understand your concern, what if they dropped them ??? Normally the high speed chairs in Bansko will be no problem to get on with your board strapped to your feet... As for people dropping boards ? I have never heard of any injury from this, as i have never heard of a ski falling when incorrectly stepped into and causing injury...
There are actually not that many areas where you would ski/board under a lift, unless you chose to ...

There are actually not that many areas where you would ski/board under a lift, unless you chose to, and if you were to get hit on the head by anything, much more likely a phone/ipod/glove/goggle...
Please don't think that the liftys don't care if you fall off a lift, they do, they really do... they have to move and press the stop button Wink

re: Carrying or skating ???

I usually carry my board, for the same reasons as you mention, and also because you never know what you'll find at the top. Glencoe has a big access chair, but you may then need to hike across grass and rocks to reach the snow.

I don't think I've ever been to a resort where they wouldn't let you carry it. If you're lucky you get a chair to yourself and get room to lay it next to you, but if it's busy, hold it against you and don't let it get it in the way of the safety bar, job done, just ...

(There may be people here who remember Pamporovo 2004!)

re: Carrying or skating ???

I'd still carry it...the whole point is not to get strangled in between skies and so on. And regarding safety I'm sure each one of us is mature enough to be proactive and see possible danger/accidents to happen.

thx for your input
