If pp doesnt object im going to write a sort of occasional blog re the progress of the chalet, if anyone object let me know but it might be informative/fun etc, any way for those not aware weve bought a restaurant in boro and are gutting it and turning it into a catered chaelt. Now ive watched plenty of progs on 'house in the sun' holiday nightmares ' etc so am quite expecting things to go t***s up now and then. Work started a couple of weeks ago, and the first thing to do is get all the contents out and thrown away..... hire a couple of gypsies pay them min wage...ok a bit more £5 a day, and lets start......feeling a bit tight they are also allowed to keep anything thats being junked. Alls going wel untill it comes to the kitchen......problem.....it would seem that the original Ranges must have gone in before one of the walls as they now wont come out...would i like them to remove one of the walls, well the tea went all over the desk as i polietly informed them theat no i dont fing want them to remove a wall!!!!!! cant they cut them up on site?? what with....well i dont know angle grinders or something....yes yes ........whats an angle grinder?? oh s**t....how about just get some sledge hammers and beat them up..the ranges that is....oh yes no problem we can do that. alls quiet for a week and then its time to work on the roof.....sorry boss cant do that its raining...eh? cant work in the rain can we??? so what are you doiung now.........well you know those ranges......yes still havent got round to them yet are you sure you dont want us to remove the wall??......why.....well theyre worth more in one piece aghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
so in rainy old weston im hoping the rain finishes soon........and we might have to invest in an angle grinder or two .........................................................
sounds good fun from where im sitting, you should maybe put some pics on net so we can see the progress in stages, hope everything go;s well for you both, good luck.
I can assure you that it sounds no different to a British building site. Only difference is the Gypsies here all have angle grinders and any other type of power tool they need.
I look forward to hearing the updates. A phrase about peanuts and monkeys springs to mind.
Best of luck, I read your updates early in the season and was most grateful. Now we are getting our of season amusement (sorry at your expense though). Anyway just count yourself lucky, the gypsies (more like travellers) here would not have asked you about the walls, they would have nicked the lot the moment they set foot in the place. If you had arranged to pay them then they would have covered the derelict site (having nicked all the brickwork too) with 0.5mm of tarmac 'guv' ...
Fraser,

Hope it works out for you, I'm sure that it will. These things are always traumatic whilst they are progressing and then six months after it is (eventually) completed you wonder what all the commotion was about and you have amusing stories to tell for the rest of your life.
Bill (who lives 500 yards from a 'designated' travellers site and whilst normally being content to have a dog as a burglar alarm is well aware that they would probably nick him too - sorry non PC soloured judgement :-))
