I, for the past two seasons, have been to Bulgaria skiing with my girlfriend cos i though it was cheap. And it was relatively cheap. But was it value for money?
Both years: crap snow, half runs closed (or open when they shouldn't be). This year in borovets: pretty good skiing to be had up to of gondola, gondola shut for 2.5 days out of the six days skiing.

Our holiday this year cost us about £450 quid each (including lift passes). On this site, lift passes are £90 for six days. Borovets has 19 runs (according to this site -and like i said, many of them closed). if all open, that works out at £4.74 per ski run for the weak (or about £9 per run when half are unusable)
Just been on Crystal ski website to look at Whistler for next year. Staying in a similar 4* hotel for a week will set me back about £550 - £600 each. Ok, so the flight is a lot longer, maybe thats why its a bit more. Cheap once out there though, given the strengh of the £, powder is virtually garaunteed, i reckon the lifts don't close when it gets a bit breezey. Lift pass (according to Crystal) is £99. There are 216 runs in whistler, that works out at £0.46 per run.
I think we can all see which is better value for money. I know where i'll be going next year.
Whistler Blackcomb is amazing, I can't see how any resort in the world can match it, other than it is known to rain at the bottom town level.
But when I went the lift passes were more like £170 for 6 of 7 days. Also it was very expensive for food and drink; this was 2003 - 2004. True, exchange rates are much better now.
£550 - £600 for Whistler is a bargain - I paid £1300 for a week at New year 03 and 04 at a 4 star

As I said on another thread I still think BG is a bargain and VFM; I can still eat out in pamps, 2 course with a beer or two for a £10. And when in Pamps last week boarded all runs except Smolyan lakes and Ski Centre 1 so was buzy enought
I was in Whistler in March 07 and one day we had rain to the top of the mountain. The ski pass is expensive but with happy hours and looking for deals we found food and drink not much more than BG. Only on 2 or 3 days out of 21 were we able to get to the new bowls on the Whistler side or onto the Blackcomb glacier. Still, spectacular when you can get on. Peak to Creek - 14kms of one piste. Sigh.
