Happy new year every one! We hope its a good one.

We got back from Borovets on the 28th but family commitments have not allowed time to let you know how we fared until now.

So...as some may recall we stayed at the Breza last year and had an awful time broken beds, leaky loos, foul food. So it was with trepidation we booked for this years holiday. We loved Borovets, the people, the skiing, the apre' ski.

We booked from Bristol, and although we had problems because the luggage handlers can't count... luggage on luggage off, on off..... eventually we took off
and because we arrived too late for a hot meal that night, we were asked to accept a hot lunch in lieu.. not bad!!

We are so glad we went back. This year we stayed at the Iglika Palace, we paid extra for superior rooms it was worth it, it was great. The beds were proper divans, the bathroom clean and leak free, and the food great, we ate in every day, there was always something on the buffet menu we could enjoy....even our two fussy teens ate well, our youngest going back for seconds and sometime thirds!!!!

We would recommend the Iglika. The staff are friendly and helpful... if you show you are open and friendly, people no matter what nationality will respond in the same manner.

The pool opened two days after we arrived and although we did not partake it was always busy.

The slopes were crowded, and threre wasn't as much snow as we would have liked, but we managed to ski every day. We accept this was because it was early in the season, If you go at Christmas this is the risk you take, but with GCSE and A levels on the horizon we took the risk.

Once again we made many friends, Trudy, Jordon, Kyle, Paul, John, and his troop and Jemma and Paul who got engaged on Christmas Morning. We also bumped into our instructors from last year George and Chris they recognised us immediatley.... we must have made some impression last year!!!

The Christmas Gala meal was great, not turkey and the trimmings but it was an interesting change and was very edible. The entertainment provided was good and afterwards we enbibed in our own entertainment until quite late or was it quite early!

We discovered why Judith likes the Iglika...althought the Hotel is good we feel it may have more to do with being next to the POLICE station!!!! or is it that the Iglika serves the strongest brandy and hot choc in Borovets...I had one at lunch time.. it knocked me out for the afternoon!!!!

Once again we had a great time in Borovets... would we go again? We've bought our lottery ticket for the roll over, if our numbers come up.. we'll be off again tomorrow.

Unfortunately there was fog on the day we left so we were diverted from Plovdiv to Sofia such a shame

lifts were limited when we were there
on the first two days it was the button lifts opposite the Rila only.. Huge queues
on our third day the gondula opened with the green and the first speed drag open
on the fourth day the started teasing by stopping and starting the four man chair
on the fifth thet opened the four man chair opposite the Rila.. not the new one
but the snow has started to arrive so I would think most will be open by now.

The lads at the Rila 1 ski depot were excellent, they read the ski numbers as we came through the door and had our boots ready by the time we got to the counter they could give customer care lessons to any one

I like the Iglika not cos of the police station, but because it's a nice small hotel, but has all the facilities and is right opposite the slopes. Having stayed at the Perelik in Pamps last year, I decided I don't like how impersonal it was and how you've always got the noise of the nightclub...

Glad you liked the Iglika - we've got a superior room booked for 5th Feb for the week. Am already thinking of booking again for next year and again, to the Iglika but no-one is yet doing on-line bookings except for Crystal / Thompson and I won't touch them with a barge pole
