Cleaning Sallopettes

Hey can anyone tell me how to clean the old pettes? Is it simply a case of whacking them in the washing machine or do they need to be sprayed with some special stuff afterwards?

Please help as I have no idea.

Thanks!

re: Cleaning Sallopettes

I just put mine on a hand wash in the machine - seems to work fine and then leave them to dry fully on a radiator or warm room

Just bought some re waterproofing stuff for mine from outdoor wear shop £5.99. Chuck them in the machine, put stuff in dispenser on it's own and let it do it's thing. Razz

re: BREATHABLE?

if you have breathable 'pettes' then you may want to use a non detergent soap as detergent blocks the pores and makes them less waterproof (no i am not winding you up) you can find this for about £5 from any good outward bound/skiing shop
Hope this helps Razz

re: Cleaning Sallopettes

You have to wash them with special detergent before putting re-proofing in machine. Nik Wax do Tech Wash and re-proofing liquid - can get from Milletts. If you use ordinary washing powder it takes all the waterproofing out.

Hi

Washing any waterproof clothing will take some of the waterproofing out. So its always best to re-waterproof them after a wash. To be safe wash them in Nik-wax Tech wash or similar. The point of the Tech wash, is that it is a detergent free soap. Normal soap powder (has bleaches and detergents in it) can damage the waterproof membrane/coating on the inside of the fabric.

Both the tech-wash (£3.99) and re-proofing spray (£7.99)are availible in most outdoor shops. Also, if you DO use the wash in re-proofer (not advised), its still best to wash them first. If you wonder how I know all this, its because I work for Blacks.

Hope this helps

re: Cleaning Sallopettes

I tried the Nik Wax stuff. It seems to do a good job but the re-proofing treatment left waxy white marks on the pettes, had to spend ages rubbing them out.

Hi

You probally used to much! Also go easy on the tech wash, I used a whole bottle once, and had soap suds pouring out the washing machine tray!!

Also I should of said, best spray them when thier still damp from the washing machine.

re: Cleaning Sallopettes

Gary,

I used the wash in re-proofer and used an entire bottle I think! At least I know they are going to be waterproof. From your previous post sounds like I should have gone for the spray.
