I think it has been closed since Christmas. We arrived the 21 dec. and I think the chair lift was closed all week, and only the slopes connected to top of gondola was open, you could not get to platato at all. The last days they also opened some slopes at chalin valog.

Ulen said it was due to high wind, but some days there was no hard wind at all. Some says that Ulen are "saving" the slopes for the 7. january, because there will come a lot of russians. Dont know if this is true, but I wonder why the slopes have been closed so long? Is bansko a very windy place? In our time in Bansko I think that only 25 % of the slopes was open.
Dont get me wrong I love bulgaria, but the skiing in Bansko is not good because of the limited open slopes and lifts, and I think that the place is not honest.
to be fair when I was out there last year it didn't seem windy at all on en we go on the chair up to the top of red 4 and it was pretty scary - they closed the lift behind us. The wind had blown the snow off the top part of the slope and it was just sheet ice - couldn't stand up and struggled to get my board on - I just kept sliding away!! Probably the most scared I have been on a mountain....
So, maybe there is a good reason....
