Did anyone out there experience the family road trip from hell on the 29th January from Burgas (should of been Sofia) to Borovets which took a meer 12 hours? At least we had good company to keep us awake all night!!!!!
It all started with one snowflake landing on Sofia's airport runway, and ended 12 sleepless hours later. Forced off our chartered plane at Burgas (next to the Black Sea) we waited in the airport for 2hrs. Finally got on coach and it broke down in the airport car park. 1hour later another coach got us on our way, just in time to see the one that broke down pass us on the road. After a few hearty renditions of "happy birthday" and "its not unusual" for the next for four hours the driver got us ...

Finally arrived in Borovets aching and we hadn't even put a ski boot on yet.
All in all though the holiday on the slopes was great, the food was good and the beer even better. A holiday we won't forget for more than one reason.
Poor old you mate, Ive done that trip but the other way round about 4 years ago when our flight home got diverted to Bourgas so i know what its like.
This year i was one of the ones stuck at Sofia airport waiting to go home because the plane could not land there, Fog was the problem but we did get a flight some 5 hours later so it wasnt too bad.
Been twice to Boro and both times has that journey. First time, on way back home, second time on way to Boro. Problem is SOFIA is not equiped for bad weather / fog, etc, which is reallt usefull when you are in Bulgaria in the winter. BUT, the holiday always makes up for this.......
This will be our fouth visit to the Rila but l must admit l did have to laugh the first time we flew into Sofia the pilot came over and said it could be a bit bumpy due to the pot holes on the run way!!!
But hey we are heading back again on Saturday the snow looks good!
Makes me think going early Jan wasnt such a bad idea! i know the snows not as good but with 2 small kids I wouldnt have liked those sort of delays! Hope its cleared up for March 13th, going back again!
