Evening All,

Just returned from the gym where io have been chatting to a few people who have just come back from 10 days in France (Flain???).

Sounds like they had a good time and had the same complaints i hear on this forum about condions of slopes, how many of their group wrecked their boards/skis, queue for lifts..etc.

Sounds like they had a good time and had the same complaints i hear on this forum about condions of slopes, how many of their group wrecked their boards/skis, queue for lifts..etc.

They also told me about the apres ski, and how much they drunk... all sounds good!!!

Then they told me the prices were paying... i nearly fell off the X-trainer!!! they were paying average of 33 euro a day for the lift pass per person (some days were cheaper as not all lifts were open), they had to pay for their boot hire - expensive, flights (14 hrs to get home - could not land in bristol so diverted to Liverpool - then travel down to south wales!! and Self Catering accomodation. Drinks on the mountain - can of coke 8 / 9 euros, coffee 6/7 euros. In the night beer/shorts were all around the 7/8 euro mark, and they only ate out 3 or 4 times as it was so expensive!!

After i had given up on the cross trainer i told them the price i have paid for myself and my partner (£890 for both of us for everything staying at the Iglika 1/2 board, flying from Cardiff on 27th, inc lift pass and hire etc..)

The point i am trying to get over and i think someone mentioned last night, when you read the bad reports - just think it could be worse as we could be paying 3 or even 4 times the price and havign the same problems in France or the other Ski destinations!!!

Bring on the snow!!! and..... Booze

I am also looking forward to the Spa treatments.

Not sure about the Spam treatments - could be a bit messy!!! Smile

Would'nt like to think how much the Spa Treatments and Massages etc.. are in Flaine - would have to re-mortgage!!!

re: Comparisons

i was in val d'sire in 1996. from memory it 650 for half board for the week then about 130 for lift pass and 150 for ski pack. so thats over 800 so far.

a pint was 4 pound or more and eating out was crazy.
now the skiing was top class, but the holidays i have had in bulgaria have been far more craic.

The cost of the holiday doesnt always equal the amount of personal satisafaction. The brilliant thing about Bulgaria is that it allows normal people to participate.

re: Comparisons

As always you can't compare apples and oranges but on price alone you can find some cheaper deals in France with better skiing than Bulgaria and much shorter transfers. Obviously some French resorts are more expensive than others.

I'm off soon to Montgenevre in the Milky way with half board including ski hire, transfers via Bristol and lift pass for £363. Last year I had a week HB in March in Serre Chavalier for £199.

But for New year i had to bring my family to Pamps because I ...

But for New year i had to bring my family to Pamps because I couldn't find cheaper in France.

Have a look on teletext for some great deals everywhere over the next few weeks.

re: Comparisons

If your booking ski passes and equipment etc separately then try www.aph.com.They offer a ski booking service and they have great discounts on separate stuff, i've checked their prices and they are great, just a shame they don't offer deals for Bulgaria yet. Good luck.
