There seem to be quite a few horror stories about poor conditions, accidents and fatalities in Borovets. I'm headed out there on Feb 18th and rather than being excited am beginning to feel a little anxious. Are things really so bad?

No they are not that bad. If you hear 500 good reports and one bad report, which one will get sensationalized?
It will always be the bad reports you hear about. Apparently if you like something you tell your friends and if you dont you tell everyone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1 BOROVETS is FANTASTIC We just got back from Borovets (iglika palace) and we are booking for mid march this year tonight!!!!!!!!!!
Accidents happen everywhere, don't worry yourself too much. Borovets is a wonderful resort and is no more unsafe than many of the larger resorts. I've been twice and loved every minute....
watch the bridge at the bottom of yastrebets 1 - worth taking your skis off and walking over - some fella broke his leg as went over the side the other day - common sense really - Borovets is as safe as anywhere - get a 16ounce steak in Kates Bar - more expensive but absolutely fantastic and by far the best done up place in Boro - Pizzas good in Francos and the Happy Duck also - avoid the chicken ive been told. Best nightlife in Buzz bar & black tiger for Karoaki if thats your thing - ...

Christo is the best!!
Injuries happen after midweek as learners go out onto slopes on their own when they have just learnt enough from instructors to "THINK" they can ski.
Unfortunately they then ski beyond their ability with obvious results. Slopes above beginners can be icy and difficult for competent skiers, let alone newly learnts.
You can lose control in less than a few seconds, so be careful and above all, take it easy!!
