Hi, Don't know if anyone can help, is using credit cards in Bansko expensive. I know a lot of cards charge 2.75% for overseas transactions, though not if you have a Nationwide card, but just wondering if there were any "hidden extras". Many thanks, Mal
Credit cards are not readily accepted in Bulgaria unless you want to draw cash from a machine. Take Sterling clean new notes no rips or writing on them.
First problem is you need to find somewhere that will take your credit card as they are not widely used. Bulgaria has a cash culture. Better to take your money in sterling and change it in the banks for a good exchange rate. Take clean, unmarked notes without tears ot the banks may reject them. Nationwide card is a good option as well.
Yes take cash. Bansko is very cheap so you will probably spend less than you think. We did not stint on anything especially booze and spent £200 for the week (2 people) not including lift passes and ski hire which were pre booked. But we did eat out 5 nights despite having half board at the hotel. This will give you a rough idea.
Thanks everyone, the reason I asked was that the hotel say I can pay by card, and that I can buy my lift pass on a card as well. Just wanted to find out if there would be any additional charges. Unfortunately we are going independenly so as far as I can see I can't book our lift passes before we go. If anybody knows away round this, please let me know. Thanks again, Mal
