Is it best to have enough Bulgarian currency to last a week or is there any ATMs in Borovets now?re: Currency
ATM machines are throughout the resort, but I would advise taking UK currency and changing it as you need it.P. Pete

in your experience Pete, its best to take very little local currency and take Sterling and change it there or do you mean take spare Sterling in case?Sorry i must sound awfully daft, just want to get it straight before we go.

I have been to Pamps 12 years running and in the early days things were very different.
Today Bulgaria, although not being as up-to-date as the UK is much improved. ATM machines, are throughout the resorts and hotel receptions will change your money almost 24 - 7.
We take about £100 in Bulgarian Lev which sees us through the first few days whilst we are settling in. You will also find that on your first day, loads of people are trying ...

It is illegal to take Lev out of Bulgaria, so just change money as and when you need it. You can change your money back into Sterling at the airports before you leave, but again this can lead to queues.
It is often mentioned, and it is very true that most Bulgarian hotels and banks will not accept UK money if it is torn or defaced. (Written on.)
Whilst 99% of all Bulgarian people are genuine and honest, like any country they do have their criminals. Therefore NEVER change your money with strangers or anyone offering you an exceptional exchange rate. You may well be given notes that appear to be genuine, but are actually Russian or Rumanian and are almost worthless in Bulgaria.
Quite simply stick to these guidelines and you will have a great time.

Ooh dear, I brought home 60 lev last year - no-one stopped me - but then again, I couldn't find anyone at Plovdiv airport to change money with...Have you got those handcuffs Pete?

Melton Mowbray PeteJust don't lend Pamps Pete the handcuffs - you never know what mischief he could get up to - and if the worst came to the worst, I've always got the key I was issued in Hendon all those years ago.
