re: Currency

Hi, Take Sterling. It must be clean, unmarked and no tears, only change in your Hotel or Banks. never on the street. ttony

re: Currency

yep thats right sterling, or if you shop arround you can get levs before you go so as to have a coupple of quid to spend as soon as you arrive ( hot, cold drinks/snaks, at the airport). the change over will take some time to come into full effect. so dont worry about it this season(or so im told).

re: Currency

Don't worry about taking too much currency if you take your cashpoint card. The autoteller machines are plentiful out there and you can draw out what money you need in local currency. My bank (Nationwide)does not charge commission on foreign transactions so I get a really good rate but you'll get charged comission in a bank anyway so there's no difference. The instructions even come up in English! Have a good time!

re: Currency

It will be many years before Bulgaria are even considered for adoption of the euro. Leva is still the Bulgarian currency. Generally you will get a MUCH better exchange rate in Bulgaria than in the UK
Don't confuse joining the EU with the single currency

re: Currency

bring about 100 lev and yuor atm card. Why carry large amounts of cash when you dont need to. I got mugged in Sofia a couple of years ago. All the got was about 40 quid and an atm card that was usless to them. I had another credit card secretely stashed in my room so there was no issue. By the way Im not trying to put anyone off Sofia or Bulgaria. Have been there about 20 times got mugged onec could happen to anyone anywhere. Please for your own sake do not carry large amounts of cash.
