May be a bloody stupid question, but I have read that sterling (and even dollars) are accepted too? Can anyone clarify this, or is it best just to use specifically Euros?
The currency of Bulgaria is the Leva, and has been for hundreds of years. It has seen growth and stability for several years now and there is no valid reason to take any other currencies other than Bulgarian Leva or the £ sterling.
There are on average, 280 Stostikies to the Leva, therefore to get a further 10 Stostikies to the pound will give you just 2.8p more, so it isn't worth the hasstle to trapes all over town looking for a slightly higher rate.

My advice would be to take about £100 worth of Leva and the rest in either Sterling or use your plastic in the ATM's which will also give you a very reasonable rate.
greggo be sure the sterling you take is clean and has no tears in the notes the bank at boro is very fussey will refuse any that are not perfect as i found out only managed to get them changed just before bank closing time the teller must have be knackerd
