D you still have to register

Hi all
I read on postings quite a while ago that as a foriegn national you have to register with local authorities. I am going to Pamps in Feb but I was wondering if this requirement is still necessary with EU status. I am travelling independently a bulgaria and ski virgin. I noticed PP mentioned in previous posting that hire of equipment and so on more expensive if not booked with travel package. I assume all the places in Pamps are much the same pricewise or is there a big variation.

Don't know if it's the same thing, but when we checked into our hotel last year we handed our passports over the desk and they kept them all week. When they were returned on departure there was an official type form in each written in Bulgarian and stamped with an official type stamp.

Last time I went the customs guy threw mine on the floor. As of Jan1st Bulgaria will be in the EU I believe they will scrap this annoying little habit.

Hi
we went to Bansko in July and didn't have to report to the local authorities. We got back through customs with no problems.

re: D you still have to register

After spending a week or so touring round Bulgaria this summer we had several registration forms from varoius places as well as several missing nights - forgetting to register, sleeper trains etc.
In Bansko we went to the police to register and the policeman decided there was a problem! He had checked our entry date into Bulgaria and showed us the rules (on the back of the registration form) stating you must register within 2 days.

We pulled out the wad of forms from a pocket - he had a laugh at our crumpled ball of paperwork and stamped his form.

Every time I have left Sofia airport they just discard the forms without looking at them - my sister spent 3 weeks camping/hiking so had no paperwork and it was no problem.

As Dave said above the practice should stop in January.

re: D you still have to register

When I came into Bulgaria a month ago they were handing out the forms to non-EU passport holders before passport control. I think this means that Brits no longer have to register at the police station or through the hotel. The rules will probably change at least twice before 2nd January so don't sweat it yet
