There has been a lot of comment on this forum regarding the high cost of ski hire and lift passes in Bansko. I am going there in Feb and have just done a quick comparison. Booking via the hotel 2 x 6 days lift passes, and 2 x ski, boots and poles at current exchange rates is £267.76. With Balkan Holidays the cost is £246.00. There has been a lot of comment on this forum regarding the high cost of ski hire and lift passes in Bansko. I am going there in Feb and have just done a quick comparison. Booking via the hotel 2 x 6 days lift passes, and 2 x ski, boots and poles at current exchange rates is £267.76. With Balkan Holidays the cost is £246.00. However the cost of a S/C week in Bansko in 3* apartments, again with Balkan, with hires comes to £1538. The total cost of a 3* B&B Hotel, including transfers from Sofia, flying from Manchester and including the above hires comes to a total of £954.
Therefore whilst paying an additional£10.88 each for equipment we are saving a lot more on the cost of the holiday.
Basically don't let the relative high costs of having to pay for passes and equipment in the resort put you off booking a holiday yourselves. The savings on the total cost far outweigh this. Mal
Hi Col, Found the Hotel Avalon in Bansko on this site, so I e=mailed the owner, an English bloke called James, who quoted me 39 euros B&B for 2 of us or 53 for half board. He is arranging the transfers and ski hire for the 2 of us. Have been told I can use my crediot card for the room and ski pass which gives a better exchange rate. Unfortunately we have to buy the passes in the resort. We are flyiing from Manchester via Prague and I booked this on Czech airlines web site. Flying time is ...

Hi Ian, Will be back on Feb 18th and will leave a report for you on here. Sorry don,t know how far we are from the lifts, but i have to contact James before I go , so I will ask him. Will let you know under heading " Ian Avalon Hotel".
