Day in Borovets...

Yesterday, after a very early start, 06.00am for me, managed to get the bus started (-24) and free off at least 2 frozen doors..
6 hardy souls headed over to Borovets, the heater in the bus struggling to output any heat at all as we slid along ice covered roads towards Samakov, eventually getting to Boro around 09.00am. Parked up outside Bobbie's, headed inside to unfreeze feet, and grab a coffee.... and HUGE breakfast....

Feeling better, met up with Gedkoolski and party and headed up the gondola (there was a queue !!!) at the top being sooooooooo cold that your tears froze it was decided just to do a couple of runs before heading over to Yastrabets.. Piste was hard but skiable, the latter (Yastrabets) being much better, and pisted to perfection... Blasting was the order of the day, ultra fast descents, attempting to ski every piste in the day we had at least once... The off-piste was frozen, crust with heavy snow underneath up on the top, improving slightly as we desended, but not good enough to drag us in... preferring to stay on piste, perfectly groomed billiardtable smooth, and fast, very fast... Great day had by all, ending in Malina at the base of the Rila black, thanks to Mitko at Malina...
We dropped in to Titanic (empty ?? maybe 06.00pm the problem) and Mammacitas (just for a look, walked out when we saw the prices), ended up in Katy's, nice meal and reasonably priced... Overall a great day, the guys i bought over had never been to Boro (well one had many years ago) and they had a blast, wishing they had the time to stay longer... Back to the bus and back in Bansko around 10.30pm, long day for me, but worth it...

My first Borovets experience taught me the merits of a neck warmer, keeping your hood on your coat, a face mask and goggles ahead of sun glasses. I've never looked back since my -32 (w/windchill)

re: Day in Borovets...

Steve if you have wrote the review today saying you had Borovets yesterday that makes it 31st. Correct?
If that's the case, I kind of think of trying to place some kind of Info about the competitor( B against B Smile )
Firstly the main road is Sofia-Borovets which at the moment is like in the Alps (dry surface snow away and speed almost like during the summer-very pleased)
If you try to climb the short cut secondary from Bansko via Klisura of course it will be in not prfect conditions ...

Have a try Sofia Borovets along the 3 lakes now for pure JOY with lakes frozen solid. Fishermen in a ice holes etc etc)

Queue at the gondola does not matter as you know but kind of ignored.if there is little queue you have straight choice of doing as perfectly prepared (I would say even better than the top runs Sitniakovo and Martinovi baraki areas.
Criscross them and then after the non noticable pressure on the gondola go there.queue of 5-10 mins is not a queue.
Monster of a queue of about 40 mins at peak time (the only viable way of reaching ski area in Bansko cam be called queue without been ashaimed Smile and without catching a taxi because in a ski resort you should not have to do this me thinks)
Of course is Brrrrrr cold.
not only in Borovets Bansko Pamporovo but the Balkans .
in fact there are very low Temps in every ski resort in Europe at the moment.which gives skiers WIDEST CHOICE for a generation.

It was perfect the day you were there(Borovets that is) and today.
I was on the 30th in Bansko and tested the ski area there but don't want to comment on it because I feel there are plenty of regulars making sure this and that Smile .
Tomorrow Pamporovo for me.
I know it will be perfect.guaranteed!

Steve,
Sounds like you had an amazing day, did Wendy make it over?

Let me know nearer the time if your proposed trip to Boro 2nd week of March comes off. Will be there on 10th for a week.

Hopefully conditions will be just as good
