Difficult question Dan,
Early Dec should be kept at arms length but snow cannons do normally allow a degree of boarding.
Later in the month tends to fair better condition wise as most European resorts.
Either way grab the bull be its horns, shell out and head over, you will have a great time and at good value for your money.
Any time before Christmas week is a bit of a gamble, last season was excellent. If you can do any weeks say from Jan21st to end of March is a good bet of getting some edges on.
Keep an eye on the board for the winter build-up and you will pick up good information.
Wendy & Steve C are on the board all the time and are an Englsih couple based in Bansko. They have a wealth of info and will help you with everything from snowboarding to other stuff such as best places to eat / stay / transfers etc. Either find a post with their name on and click on their name or they will soon be along and help you out.
We're based in Borovets but I don't have any knowledge on Bansko and not going to even try and give advice!!

Being honest, and along the lines of what BTI has said, Chrimble can be risky snow wise, but that said, with 220 snow cannons coverage even for early Dec will be substantial.. There is another consideration, it can be blooming busy, the Christmas/new year attracting the largest numbers... All said, it can be great, deffo the best value for the period, bars are busy, and quite a good atmosphere... give it a go
Steve C, 220 snow cannons! Wow! how many runs does this cover and when do they normally turn these on? If we came before Christmas would we have something to snowboard on between the 15th and 22nd of December? As long as its better than the wet slopes here I'm sure we'd book up now as we can get a good deal on flights.
How much are the ski pass's too for 6 days?
Do the cannons come on because christmas gets busy?
