Distance from centre

Hi - I'm going to hotel Pamps on the 3rd and though I know better than to panic at other peoples' bad reviews (I'm pretty laid back when it comes to hotel standards!) I'm wondering about its distance from the resort centre. I booked through Inghams & the brochure said the Pamps is a 'short stroll' from the centre, but posts here seem to suggest otherwise. Could anyone give me a rough idea how far it is? I'm reasonably fit & generally don't mind walking but in the evening I'd like as short a ...

Depends on what hotel your staying in? We stayed at Elina last year and although it was only a 5 min drive to centre it was too snowy to walk any distance especially when a bit wobbly

It's about half a mile - no problem when sober but icy and dodgey when drunk and no footpath for most of the way.Confused

re: Distance from centre

you'd be mad to stagger home - no footpaths and crap roads and the taxi drivers drive like maniacs...and if there is ice or packed snow it can be a bit hairy

I've known people to stay at pamps every year and they never complain about the hotel but there doesn't seem to be much happen at night and generally people go to BJ's which is in the Perelik or Dak's which is beside the Snejanka

The taxis ar a rip off but at least you'll live

Lol, sounds like an experience! I go to Greece a lot so I'm used to mad taxi drivers. How much is a rip-off? More than UK taxi fares?

re: Distance from centre

hotel pmaps is meant to be one of the best in bulgaria i've been there once it's amazing. solid marble evrywhere. only problem is when you get there the rooms are always wrong, so you'll probably have to change rooms.

So about £2.40-something based on the current exchange rate?

Lol, I've just remembered the last time I got in a Bulgarian taxi - about 18 years ago on a family holiday to Sunny Beach. We were going somewhere with another family & the taxi driver insisted he could get both families into his Lada, so off we went with NINE people on board!

re: Distance from centre

That's all changed now due to Police clampdowns. 4 max now in nearly all vehicles.
