Don't Get Too Disheartened

Into March now and the skiing season is 70% behind us.
Like almost every ski resort country in Europe, Bulgaria has seen just a fraction of the snow it normally gets and that has caused many to question whether Bulgaria is a worthwhile skiing destination for future years.

The truth is, this has been the worst year for snowfall in Bulgaria for 87 years and unfortunately these freak seasons, although extremely rare, can damage the reputation of an otherwise first class holiday destination ...

Like almost every ski resort country in Europe, Bulgaria has seen just a fraction of the snow it normally gets and that has caused many to question whether Bulgaria is a worthwhile skiing destination for future years.

The truth is, this has been the worst year for snowfall in Bulgaria for 87 years and unfortunately these freak seasons, although extremely rare, can damage the reputation of an otherwise first class holiday destination.

Having skied in Bulgaria for 15 years now, I can only look back on many many brilliant holidays with snow being fantastic every year prior to this.

It would have been much the same wherever you had gone this year. Andorra was poor, Slovinia, Romania, France, Austria, Italy, all had major problems at some time throughout this season, so it's a little unfair to think these conditions were limited to Bulgaria alone.

Most who have returned have said that although the snow was not perfect, they still had a great holiday and this is testiment to both their willingness to enjoy themselves and the hospitality that Bulgaria offers.

So don't be put off for 2008, I'm sure this freak year will be forgotten by most soon, and we can all look forward to normal conditions returning next season.

Yes PP we agree but for us poor souls who have to go at half term peak times, pamporovo did struggle to accomodate us all and the ski schools to my mind were too packed to learn in a safe and enjoyable environment.
Also for next year they should REALLY clear a path from the boot room to the gondola - it was carnage walking on that ice most days and loads of complaints about it - me included. Two of our party refused to ski completely after day two because of the fear of walking on ice to ...

I don't mind if people are put off at all. Go else where, it's no problem. Less people the more snow next year for me!

pam pete.WRONG.It hasnt been the same everywhere you go in Europe. Please dont generalize the whole globe just for the sake of it.Only In the I LOVE BG CLUB that will hold water. The season is not 70% over please calculate end of season in quite alot of ski resort which is around end of April and you will come with a much smaller percentage.there are 2 more months left -dont finish premature the season. For BG yes I agree the season is even 80% over and done.where did you get these worst snow ...

From the Sofia Echo that I receive every day!!!!!
Stated last week it was the worse snowfall in 87 years - but then, you obviously know better that the Sofia Echo!!

Of course it's been the same all over Europe - where have you been the last 4 months!

As for just below normal ------ I have skied Pamporovo for 15 years and it has NEVER been anything other than plastered in snow every year. I have also run this site for the last 7 years and have a pretty good idea of what I'm talking ...

I have to agree with Pamps Pete - I have skiied Pamporovo for the last 11 years, in all months through the season, and have never seen conditions like this. The place is normally coming down with the white stuff and also, totally agree that this is definately a freak year on par with most of Europe this season.

Well said PP. We've been to Pamporovo 6 times now since 1999 at varying times of the season. The week starting 17th Feb 2007 was the worst for snow we have seen, but we look at it that we had to have a bad few days at some stage in our lives. We've always had good snow in Pamporovo and enjoyed every year.
As for weather reports, I think that you need to be in the resort itself to see how the weather is. We check the for the snow report religiously, but how often can you say that it is ...
