Is double pricing still in 'fashion' at Pamporovo ? Last year I noticed I usually payed double when eating out compared to my bulgarian friends. I've been told that lift passes are also overcharged when asking in english. Anyone know of the official and non-official pricing, even with the company operating the skilifts ? More and more people tell me they don't want to go to Bulgaria because they are just being ripped of.
Surely not. No doubt some of the "we love bulgaria" brigade will be along shortly to chastise you your negative post and to put you straight that in general the Bulgarians are a lovely and friendly race and such things do not happen.
In regards of the numbers not wanting to go. Just hold on there a while and no doubt some of the property owners will be along to tell you that it is not the case nad in fact visitor numbers are up on previous years
It would ...
Could'nt be the case.

It would not bode well for some landlord with property in bulgaria to subcribe to the idea that numbers are falling and their potential for making quick money becoming redundant now would it ?
Have either of you travelled much out of western europe or "westernised nations"? If you have you will know that double pricing is standard where there are great disparities between what the locals earn compared to the tourists. I am not saying it is right and it can be infuriating to say the least but it is not a uniquely Pamporovo or even Bulgarian disease. The prices are still invariably cheaper than "Western" ones anyway so just be grateful you live on the right side of the tracks and ...

No it doesn't, as I said it's infuriating, but there is not much you can do about it, bar not going. But that seems futile when things like lift passes are a lot cheaper than other places anyway.
oh please - have u been to South Africa - greece - anywhere in the asian countries - hahahah - u get ripped off EVERYWHERE.. u just need to read up and be smart enough and aware!
Its all fine and well double pricing. It happens the world over always has, always will.
I think the major point that has been lost in translation, is the blatent nature that it occurs now in Bulgaria. I have noticed a vast sea change in the attitude of Bulgarians from my first vist up until my last visit. The only thing i can put it down too is greed.

The reality is that this greed culture, which has spirled from watching people like greedy english and europeans come into their country buy an apartment at say 20k euros a few years back to treble their money in about 2 years.
I know this is'nt the case now and a hell of a lot of these greedy investors have got stung or are in the process of getting a prolonged stinging, but all the same the poor local bulgarian is sitting back looking on, not being able to compete in the property market watching this. Its not a bit wonder they treat us as cash cows and try to milk the maximum they can from us.
However they dont realise that this short term success in satisfying their greed will have long term implications
i was in boro and we got on with one of the street lads, had a few beers with him one night and he told us that he pays about half of what we pay.
not complaining as it happens everywhere.
