Anybody know what impact the Mens downhill will have. I see it is in the Half term. I would imagine that a certain amount of th mountain is closed and it is busier. Would like to know what people think before booking flights. With all the kids holidays now at the same time it was busy this year. If half the mountain is then closed and more people, I can see it being a nightmare.
Lawry,
I would expect major problems for at least a few days, there will be piste closures, certainly the tomba and some of the reds above it, this year I was in Bansko during the mens slalom, it only used the tomba, which was closed all week for preparation of the piste, and this was only a europa cup event. I would imagine there will be far more closures of piste next year and much more disruption, however if you want to see it it will probably be a fantastic spectacle.

It may also be a good advert for the resort in the long term and may add pressure to the authorities to allow expansion.
I think you are right to be concerned, sadly communication with ulen has never been easy so its difficult to know how many pistes will be closed.
Personally I would steer clear, in fact I have allready booked for late Jan, when hopefully as this year it will be relatively quiet with good conditions again.
There is no mens downhill, it is ladies super G and downhill. The runs effected are red 3, red 4, and tomba. Due to the nature of the event the course will require watering and building up which could involve at least 10 days prior to the event. The erection of stands and hospitality at Bunderista Polyana could also effect nursery areas but only for a couple of days. The expected crowds for the two days of racing will effect the need to go up the mountain, and if like last year they close ...

It will be a spectacle as it was last season, a real draw for Bansko, something that advertising alone could never provide. The fact that the FIS see Bansko as a venue to host world class events, not just once but again, is a shot in the arm, for an emerging resort. Just wait, mens slalom the season after, then we will get the madness that follows the FIS.... cannot wait
Steve C,
The FIS website shows that it is a mens World cup in the SL and SC, disciplines, I suppose that means slalom and super combined, I expect this will still need the red runs above the tomba to be closed for a while before the event for preparation, and possibly partial closures elswhere for the racers to practice.
2110-2111 season will be the womans downhill and super G, 2111-2112 will be the mens slalom and super G, so next season is the women, the following will be the mens...
I accept what the FIS site states, perhaps there has been a change ??? A combined with slalom and super G would be great, even better if its next season.... Bring on those cowbells
