I had a phone call this morning with the dreadful news that a skier was killed whilst skiing in Chepelare on Saturday. The skier was apparently skiing off-piste with a group of friends when he struck a tree and was killed instantly.
I currently have no further information as to the age or nationality of the skier, the 4th to be killed on the Bulgarian mountains this season. I was told that the skier was not wearing a crash helmet at the time of the incident.

Our thoughts are very much with his family at this very sad time.
My sentiments too. Was in Boro last week and apart from one chap in hotel dislocating shoulder everybody came back safe.
My condolences to family but a timely reminder to wear a helmet which I saw many experienced skiiers donning.
Very sad news, just serves to remind us that the sport we love does carry risks and dangers. Condolences to the freinds family etc.
Agree with chris, helmet probably wouldnt save you if you hit a tree at speed, it might if you glanced the tree with your head though, so always best to wear, especially when tree skiing.
Take care everyone.
I'm sure there are many many motor cyclists who have crashed at high speed and are alive today because they wore a crash helmet. I am not saying that this would have saved this poor lad on Saturday, but it may well have raised his chances of survival.
There's a lot more to this story.
He was skiing a run that was 'closed' - he had already skied it at least 3 times before and each time he fell
His friends told him not to ski it again - but did he listen???
Why oh why don't people take notice when it says piste closed (and it was fenced) it means the piste is closed!!!!
