re: Drink

Cheapest local beer is Astika, type of lager that is not bad at all. About 40p a bottle.
Rakia (probably spelt wrong) is the local spirit, nice with a BIG kick.

re: Drink

Hi, Amy!
You can have anything you like here - vodka, gin, cognac, martini, etc.
But please, be sure to check the Bulgarian wines (especially Mavrud) and rakija ... Pamporovo Pete is quite right! Booze

Lo Russell,

I made the mistake of letting my flat mate book the holiday (cheers Nige Wink ) and while he's flying from Gatwick, I'm flying from Manchester (?!?!?!?!). We're all (apparently) staying in the Hotel Eidleweiss. However last time Nige went away he was supposed to be going to Saltzburg and ended up on the plane to Strasbourg so I'm just hoping I end up in the right country never mind the right resort Very Happy

re: Drink

So Pete you spell right.

Rakia is together with Mastika one of the national beverages. Mastika is an Anisette as Pernot or Ouzo.
Rakia is something as in Italia Grappa, with some differences.
Some Rakias are made from fruits, so you can buy jabalkova rakia made from apples and kaissieva rakia made from apricotes.
All in all you make another difference in muskatova rakia, made by grapes Muskat and grosdova rakia is made by anyother kind of grapes.

Espacially in the winter and in the mountain region you can get in some restaurants and bars so called graina rakia this is hot rakia, great to drink first after skiing...

The beer is also cheep as Pete wrote, a bottle of Ariana the cheapest one I know cost normal in the shop around 13 to 15 p, the normal beers as Kamenitza, Zagorka or Astika around 20 to 30 p for a half litre, if you like dark beer try the dark one from Kamenitza is only brewed in the winter months.

So cheers and got one for me
