Driving Sofia to Bansko

I'm trying to get information on the road conditions for night driving from Sofia to Bansko. Is the road good? Are snow chains recommended? Would I be better to travel early morning when light? Any driving info much appreciated.

Tony roads are good and I lived in Sofia / Bulgaria for a year and never had any problems driving around at night. Snow chains would be useful but there are always plenty of people ready to push - probably not at night though.
