We are thinking of driving from Pamps to Bansko next week if conditions dont improve in Pamps (assuming Bansko is OK!). Anyone done this trip? info on best route, travel time etc gratefully received. Also any advice on good reasonably cheap hotels that we could stop at for a day or two?

You can make your own route there.
Go through Pazadzhik, do not go directly through Rhodope mountain, it's very risky in the winter.
It'll take you 4-5 hours, it's 3 hours in the summer.
It's 2 hours to Asenovgrad, then 1 hour to Pazardzhik and then 1.5-2 hours to Bansko.
You can always try to go directly through Rhodope mountain near Dospat dam, it should take you around 3 hours, but it's a really risky road for winter time.
2 hours to Asenovgrad? It normally only takes 1.5hrs at most to get to Plovdiv. Take your point about going through the mountains but if it stays like it is then snow + ice aint going to be a problem. 3-4 hrs still sounds OK if it is our only chance to ski!
