re: Driving up the mountain to avoid the Dreaded gondola

There are car parks up there so I guess it is (or was) do-able although Steve C did mention on this board a couple of weeks ago that the local authorities were introducing a levy for dropping off at the gondola and up the mountain so not sure how many of the taxi services will do runs up there this season...
Also there was news a couple of weeks back that ULEN would be running a number of buses backwards and forwards during busy times to reduce the queuing - every little helps Wink - Seems ...

re: Driving up the mountain to avoid the Dreaded gondola

Glenn,

Last January I used to get taken up to the top of the Gondola by my Hotels minibus, there were quite a few cars parked up there, the is a parking area which is near the piste a little above Bunderishka Polyana, so you can ski down to get to the lifts up the mountain. There is also some parking near the gondola top station.

The problem may be that access may be restricted this year, I am sure I remember Steve C mentioning that Ulen were going to restrict access and charge to get vehicle access but am not sure if this will affect your plan.

Hope this is some help.

Don.

We have been informed that for complex buses and the likes of ourselves a licence will be required and the charge is 500lv per vehicle... This basically makes it uneconomic for us to run the service. Ulen have noted that they will be providing ten 18 seater buses to run in the busy periods...
This does highlight something, the mountain road is a public road, and anyone displaying a current vignette should be able to drive this road, and pay to park at the top, 10lv per day last year... We ...

We are still unsure of the juristiction regarding Ulen's decision, so will wait for the season and see what happens.. but we are not going to hold our breath, Ulen's decisions normally run rough shod over most things Confused
