I can't believe that i'm only asking this question now after 5 years of visiting Bulgaria, but does the Bulgarian medical establishments recognise the E111 or not as yet?

Yes E1 11 bring it although Bulgaria has had a reciprocal agreement with the UK for Years.

the e1 11 has been replaced with the european health card Wink

I got mine within 7 days of applying
