Got back from Borovets last Saturday, and stayed in the Ela. Rooms were basic but ok. Only thing I found was the room smelled a bit smoky for the first few days.
Didn't try the evening meal, as we got bad reports other members of the group who'd tried it the 1st night. Breakfast were OK.
The staff are friendly and the lobby bar is good and has a 4 hour happy 'hour' with 2 for 1 cocktails. The location is also great, with the Gondala station and the main strip of bars and restaurants ...

There is a little restaurant right by the Ela, that does pizzas, pasta dishes as well as Bulgarian dishes. We ate out every night, and usually paid about 10 quid each for the meal and a few beers. Best food I had was in the Happy Duck and Mamacitas.
Stayed in the Ela last year, the food was adequate! They supply a microwave so you can heat up the food to the more usual "English" temperature. Theres nothing really wrong with the grub, but while its so cheap to eat out, its always worthwhile doing it!
Cheers for the replies seems hotel food is cold everywhere in Boro, stayed in the iglika 2 weeks ago and had same problem, but as you say eating out is good.
