Eagle's Nest

Just got back from a vacation in Bansko. I can easily say that it was the worst vacation of my life.

- The slopes are great, the facilities are top notch and dirt cheap.

- Bansko has the most polluted air that I have ever had the displeasure of inhaling. So, if you are there and the weather is sunny with high pressure; No problems!

During the week I was stuck in Bansko, we had all cloudy days. The headache, the coughing and the eye burn is a killer. There were times, where I could not see more than 500 meters because of the pollution! (BTW: I routinely travel to the 3rd world, never seen air quality this poor. I wonder how much of my EU taxes are going to be spent on cleaning this mess?) It was so bad I had to start taking medications.

- Bulgarians have no concept of how to run a hotel. We stayed at Eagle's Nest. The facility was dirty, the breakfast buffet consistently offered old food.

- Bulgarians are unfriendly as hell, and they will do anything to cheat you. Shop keepers, taxi drivers, ski instructors, everyone. Which is normal in a lot of countries in the world, but never to this level.

I consider this "cheap" vacation I took a complete waste of time. Next ski vacation, I will part with a few more euros and go visit a country without industrial pollution, dirty hotels and a population of thieves.

One last thing: I was so disgusted with my experience in Bulgaria that I actually payed extra money to cut my vacation short and get back home. I have visited close to 40 countries, this is the first time I actually payed extra to leave. My worst vacation, ever! Please do not go to Bulgaria and encourage further misery.

Honest report Alp - can't say many will agree with it, but admire your straight talking.

It will be visit 26 for me this year - and hopefully I will have 26 more as I simply love the place.

Better luck on your next trip wherever it may be - at least you gave it a go.
