I'm going to boro a week on Sunday, I went in feb 07' and to be honest I don't think I'll be visiting bulgaria skiing again. The reasons being 2 fold.
1) The conditions: with the forecast not looking too good it looks like the skiing could be a wash out much the same as it was in 2007. After all snow is the reason we go there, I could stay at home and get pissed for a week solid which lets face it is what will be happening if there's no snow while we are there.

2) It sounds like the locals are starting to shoot themselves in the foot what with price hikes and constant ripping off of visitors.
If I have to pay a little extra and go to another European destination to heighten my chances of snow and honest locals so be it. Shame really
Agree with what you say if in fact the conditions are as stated, there are so many conflicting reports that no one can make any sense of it all, last year we went last week of jan and up until the Saturday befoe we went the conditions were very poor, but a heavy dump of snow over the weekend and into the early part of the week gave us good conditions, so we will have to wait and see what it is like when we get there. It's certainly a delimma, after 2 fantastic trips to Bansko the past 2 years, due to snow conditions, we took advantage of a super cheap deal to Sauze d'oulx Italy last week, amazing snow condition 40cm powder, no lift queues, really crap hotel compared to what we had experienced in Bansko and an expensive lift price due to access to the Milkyway. We had a fantastic weeks snowboarding with loads of off piste but compared to Bansko something was lacking in the atmosphere on the slopes, just ...

We had a fantastic weeks snowboarding with loads of off piste but compared to Bansko something was lacking in the atmosphere on the slopes, just no fun really. It was however incredibly cheap to drink coffee, hot chocolate and lunch on the mountain, alcoholic drinks in town also fairly cheap, cheaper than UK. We had a really good week but feel we would rather it had been in Bansko.
I agree that the atmosphere in Bulgaria is second to none, but as we pay to go skiing/boarding then it is important we can pat take in our sport, let hope the bad years are on the way out and we ca have some good years like 2002/03 when conditions were excellent
unfortunatley its the one thing no one can forcast- snow!(well not that far in advance!) all over Europe a couple of year ago it was bad remember- best go for altitude for best chance, but obviously more expensive!
i remember going to Lanzarote one summer, 100% chance of sun- Rained six days out of the seven! (could have stayed at home then too!)
we pay our money and take our chance im afraid!
