Are there any predictions of any significant change in the exchange rate after Jan 1st when Bulgaria becomes part of the E.U.?re: Exchange Rate?
No none whatsoever.Bulgaria will not entertain any change in it's currency prior to 2010 and there is no reason to expect any change in the value of the Lev.

First time we visited Bulgaria in 1991, exchange rate was 40 lev to the pound sterling!! Trouble was, there was nothing to spend it on!re: Exchange Rate?

Nah - this was in August! A lovely place - people had so little then - lots of shops with nothing on the shelves - but everyone was so welcoming. Just made you feel a bit guilty at having it so easy back home.re: Exchange Rate?
The exchange rate for the lev is fixed to the Euro at 1.955 (i think). So it's the fluctuation of the Euro you need to worry about.re: Exchange Rate?
the lev devalued some years back, 10lev became 1 new lev, thats why you can get hammered by changing on the streets as the old (worthless)notes are still about

I've never been skiing or on holiday toformer soviet republic so i'm not sure of the local economy or prices for drink/ food.How much money would you suggest to take for one weeks skiing in Borovets - 2 of us are staying in B&B over new year for a week.
