Fab time in Bansko

HI All,
Just to let you know our party of 11 first time skiers and first timers to Bansko had a fantastic time. Can't praise the:- Resort, Ski Instructor "Tzetzo", Hotel Perun, the local Bars and Mehanas, the Bulgarian people and the good value for money - lager and food enough.

Anyone worried about going don't be.

Yes the Gondola queues were large if you got there around 8.10 but it was 1/2 term and the racing was on. Get there by 8 and it was only a 10-15min wait no probs ...

Looking forward to returning next year.

re: Fab time in Bansko

Hi donna,.

Good to hear you had fun! We are coming to bansko for our first ever skiing trip and staying in the perun - how did you find the hotel and food? We are vegetarian, so am a little concerned about the food and if we will find enough to eat.

Also wanted to ask what time does breakfast start as we have lessons booked and need to be up at the slopes at 10am but i read that breakfast doesnt statt till 8 so by the time we would go to get the skis it would be around 8.30 atleast ...

Also wanted to ask what time does breakfast start as we have lessons booked and need to be up at the slopes at 10am but i read that breakfast doesnt statt till 8 so by the time we would go to get the skis it would be around 8.30 atleast and then maybe 9 by the time we queue and if there are large queues we could miss our lessons? I am assuming since you got to the gondola by 8, breakfast either starts earlier or you skipped it?

Any other info/tips you can offer about the hotel and bansko would be great, thanks!

re: Fab time in Bansko

Hi Manisha - I think by the time you're out there you won't need to worry about the queues - UK half term week is always a nightmare as are some of the Rusian / Greek holidays.... March I am reliably informed is normally a lot better... (I am going March this year for my 3rd trip to Bansko - been Jan and Feb in the past..) Good Luck!

Hi Manisha

Breakfast starts at 7am and closes at 10am so no worries getting to the ski hire and up the mountain.

Tea is also 7-10pm. Food is very good. Freshly cooked pancakes and omellettes, cooked breakfast is available and the usual continental options. Lots of variety. You may even get to eat Brocoli for Breakfast!!!!!

I went during half term so it was hectic so we aimed to get to Gondola by 8 it takes 20mins to get to the main skiing area where you will meet your ski instructor normally by 10am. I would have thought in March there should be very few queues so you may be able to have a leisurely breakfast.

The old town is lovely and has lots of little Mehanas which you can just drink in you dont need to eat and they are very reasonably priced and friendly.

I hope like us newbys you will have a wonderful time and want to go back again. The week flew over but a rest was required after 6 days skiing.

Enjoy. Very Happy

Hi Donna - I think we spoke just before you went out to Bansko; I was a newbie in Borovets in January and I gave you my holiday in a nutshell! Glad you had a good time, do you think you are now a converted skiier? I know I am - already starting to plan next year.....

HI Clair

Yes, we are all definite Ski converts had a great time all round. Ski instructions was supberb, hotel great, food and drink excellent and great value. First time in a good few years we have actually brought home foreign currency. We are too already looking at next year, the only downside was the amount of people on the slopes due to it being half term and the World Cup. But had a fantastic time nonetheless. Are you looking at booking back up to Boverets or would you fancy ...

re: Fab time in Bansko

I think I'd probably go back to Borovets - now I've been there, I could probably progress better if I know the slopes etc; plus I want to actually go out in Boro - we had 3 kids with us last time and just never got out. Next year = no kids I think! But I think that I'm not going to go through a tour operator this time - I may come back here and ask opinion on best places to get ski hire/passes, places to stay etc and do it all separately and definitely sample more Bulgarian culture, like ...

But who knows what will happen? I definitely love Bulgaria though!
