I fear that everyone in the world will be holidaying in Bansko next year. Could be a nightmare with over crowded slopes and lifts? There are new hotels popping up all over the place. This year it was only bad on the main arrivals day but next year???
I understand that there is a new gondola and new slopes in the pipeline but as yet the location of the new gondola has not been confirmed and so I suspect that it will not be completed in time for next season? Does anyone have any better ...

Not just Bansko Chris Pamporovo and Borovets are going through the same. At least Bansko has a good head start with a much larger ski area. I found Pamporovo almost unbearable when I went In January it was far too crowded in places i.e the greens. Reds and blacks still quiet though. Thing is so many new apartments and hotels planned in Pamps cant see how the resort will cope unless they expand and quick.
It's a concern that the management in Pamporovo for one are aware of. Bansko has much the same issue.
Some high level meetings will be taking place through the summer to address this and I am confident that new slopes will be opening as the development of Bulgarian Ski Resorts continues.
They are not so stupid as to kill the golden goose, and new slopes are a MUST to accomodate the influx of extra people set to double in 2008 from what it was in 2005.
I was shocked by the amount of people on arrivals day this year and I really noticed the increase in people compared to last year. As pointed out, the amount of hotels and appartments going up is phenomenal so I wonder what next year will be like......I shall of course to return to investigate
I have heard that the new Gondola will not be ready until 2008 so it's a little way off yet.

As PP said though, the management will be aware of the volume of people and are (surely) not going to want to mess up the resorts.
Hopefully expansion tactics will come into play and it won't simply be a case of greed and seeing $ (or Euros) in front of their eyes taking place over common sense.
although there were hugh crushes on the first day for me that was sunday, believe monday was pretty much the same, but as iam very sad and like to be one of the first to ski on the peiste iam usually there for 8.30am, the slopes in general were pretty quiet especially the reds at the top, i skied down the black at around 3 and that was still well groomed, dont think the problem is that big yet, do need to get more runs in place though, but mainly because experienced skiers may want more of a ...
