re: First Timers

Borovets or Pamps - if Borovets, try for the Rila and if Pamps, try for the Mourgavets.

If you are going in 2004, you may have missed the boat though

Biggest difference between Boro and Pamps is that in Boro you can ski to the door, in Pamps, it's a ski bus.

Mark,

The resorts are getting more and more popular each year as the great Bulgarian secret becomes known to more and more.

Thousands return year after year because this country has something for everyone.

So you need to book very very soon, or you will find the resorts completely full (it there not already.)

I will tell you more of Pamporovo.

Great for kids, Kinderski is one of the best in Europe.

Husky sledge rides, Bungie, Scadoos, Bumboarding Evenings, Candlelit Evening Decent by Instructors, Instructors Show, (sort of Panto) Karaoke and all bars will allow your kids in until late provided they are well behaved.

Slopes are varied from very easy to very hard, but beginners will be skiing from the very top to the bottom after a few days of lessons, as it is possible to ski the whole mountain on easy runs.

Lots of shops to brows around and a friendly atmosphere that you will find hard to beat anywhere in the world.

A great choice, and excellent value for money.

re: First Timers

Just to add my bit re Bansko. I haven't been to Boro or Pamps and although I loved Bansko I wouldn't recommend it for beginners. I was 40 when I learnt and did struggle to begin with. You need a resort with easy runs to get technique and confidence and the runs in Bansko are not that easy from a beginners point of view.

Hope this helps together with the other replies.

re: First Timers

I have been to Boro twice and stayed at Rila & Samakov. I would recommend either but would say that the Samokov would be more suited to families. The nursery slopes in Boro are right out side the Rila which is lovely at the end of the day and also for night skiing if you wish to have a go! having said that Samakov is only 1 minute walk from Gondola station and about 5 minutes max to nursery slopes.

Have heard bad things about Hotel Olymp so would not recommend you stay there.

re: First Timers

It would probably work out cheaper to pay for a 'learn to ski' pack through your operator in the uk before you go.
You can then ski as little or as much as you want - you'll probably want to ski all the time and have everything when you want it - even if you don't want lessons it'll be cheaper than hiring stuff and buying lift passes for a couple of days
