Hi All - back from Bansko after 5 days - 4 of which spent skiing on wonderful empty pistes with some of the nicest skiing conditions I have ever had.
Overall ski area is not that big for me - they need to increase this massively over the next few years to compensate for the increased bed space. I'm one of the many brits who picked up an apartment in Bansko and think it's cracking - but rental and resale will certainly be affected if they don't increase the number of pistes.

That huge big lift on the right of the piste map - is there plans to develop the whole of that side of the mountain for pistes and lifts etc? Definately needed... heard some horrid fact of 200,000 beds by the end of this year and ski pistes that can only cope with 8,000 or so people... ouch!
So - overall - Bansko is great - at the minute - there is still a load of development, but since October (when I last went) the changes have been huge - the roads from Sofia, new Airport terminal in Sofia, roads in Bansko, new bridge etc... All cracking.
If you are going out now or around now you should just have enough snow. By day 4 (Monday) the snow was very sluchy come the afternoons.... but early in the morning - lovely!
Also - best pub we had - the 'Friendly Pub' - as you walk down the main road away from the gondola it's down the road on the right. Live music, decent grub, Sky Sports on mute and cheap... as everything is!!
All in all - cracking... will be a ton better when finished building and if they develop the ski area a lot more!!
Thoughts or any info on increased ski area plans welcome...
200,000 is probably an exaggeration, however the number of beds they are building will far exceed the capacity of the mountain. The development of ski slopes all depends on Ulen, and the environmentalists that are battling their plans.
The new gondola will start this spring, however will take nearly two years to complete, so next year will be horrendous queue wise.
It will certainly be interesting to see what happens over the next couple of years.
