First time to Bansko

Hi all,

I am planning the first leg of our honeymoon and am making Bansko the first stop. We are having problems finding an agent in Australia who can give any real direction-

Which is the best hotel to stay in Bansko?
Do we have to book transfers from Sofia in advance- is there a shuttle bus service?

I know we can hire equipment, can we hire clothes (don't want to lug our gear from Australia)? What will this cost?

Cheers

re: First time to Bansko

The Kempinski is definately the best, as for transfers it really all depends who you are planning to get there. If you go as part of a package trip your transfer will be part of the trip if your going independently you can arrange your own.
As for ski clothing I don't know the answer to that one. Hope you have a great trip.

I have not seen anywhere to rent ski clothing but would second the opinion of the Kempinski. Getting a taxi from Sofia is not expensive, or there are a number of people with transfer mini busses - google Bansko and ski and you'll find some answers.

This is my 1st post here so be kind . I have been going to Bansko for about 4 years now (go about 2 or 3 times a year) . The Kepinski is definately the best hotel in the resort (imo) . The service is good and its only about 50 meters from the cable car . Never hired clothes but anything is possible - the crew at intersport are quite helpful , a google on them and mail them to see might be helpful . I use the same chap every time for transfers but theer are a few who offer a good reliable ...

Wow! Great honeymoon!
Kempinski would definitely be the go for honeymoon type accom, if its the best bansko has to offer that you are after. If you are on a budget there are loads of other good hotels available too.

Do you kow where you will be flying into Sofia from? I know some of the ski clothing hire companies allow you to pick up and drop off at UK airports if that is where you are heading in from it could be an option.

And I'm not suprised agents in Oz are not fully clued up ...

And I'm not suprised agents in Oz are not fully clued up on it..my Mother is one, and had no idea you cold ski in Bulgaria til we went... trying to get her to recommend the place to people now. Probably alot easier to go through any of the operators in the UK.

re: First time to Bansko

we use blugariatransfer.com for a car transfer, about 140 euro return sofia to bansko.

Kempinski is the best, we have stayed there but also stayed at Hotel Lion - which is good, comfy, good service, bit cheaper than kempinski.....

good luck!!!!

Aw - many congratulations and I hope you have a LOVELY honeymoon! Razz

Kempinski is defo the top hotel offered and no doubt if you let them know it is your honeymoon they will arrange some treats for you!

As for ski wear hire I have no clue - just one suggestion though - I have recently travelled New Zealand and took ski gear as knew we would ski. After that though we headed to hotter climates (Bali) so - OK a little costly but not too bad - I packed mine and my son's ski clothing ...

As for ski wear hire I have no clue - just one suggestion though - I have recently travelled New Zealand and took ski gear as knew we would ski. After that though we headed to hotter climates (Bali) so - OK a little costly but not too bad - I packed mine and my son's ski clothing into a big plastic postal bag and sent it on home - it got home just after we did! Not sure how postage in BG is compared to NZ but that may be an option if only clothing?

Either way, hope you sort something out and have a lovely time.

Best wishes
