First timers to Bansko

Hi there,
We are a party of First Time Skiers and I was just wondering if anyone could give us rough indications of the sort of prices we will be looking at for food and drink both on the slopes and off the slopes in Bansko. We have 4 fussy teenagers with us too, will they be catered for food wise.

Really excited with a tinge of nervousness being total novices.

Well Donna... on the mountain you are served by a selection of Ulen (mountain operator) restaurants, each serving the same basically, not great but edible, be it a little pricey, your usual pizza, burger, spag bol etc etc... Of course if you are feeling a little adventurous you could try the `Pesherita' mehana at the side of the ski road, about half way down on the left, traditional foods, well cooked, great prices, and nice atmosphere, amazingly one the only privately owned outlets on the ...

The town however offers massive selection, suggest starting in somewhere like the `Friendly bar', great menu (including steaks) and good prices, the `Irish bar', again, tourist menu, good prices and atmosphere, many other tourist type restaurants, and funnily enough, a couple (about 175) mehanas, traditional Bulgarian taverns, many of which will entertain im sure... Fussy teenagers Mad let em starve for a while (2 days minimum), that'll give em an appetite for anything...

Thanks for info Steve
Sounds like we have plenty of options anyway. As long as the prices are no where near what i hear the french alps are then we should be fine. Apparently coke is £8 a can in French, burger anything upto £21. So hopefully Bulgaria will suprise and come nowhere near prices. I like your thoughts on the teenagers Very Happy. I've read a few good reports about the pub on the ski road, will we be able to get to it as we are first time skiers with no experience at all.

Also, one last thing - do you think we'll be in for long waits on the slopes as we are arriving sat 19th (half term).

Thanks again. Wink
Don

re: First timers to Bansko

Well, it will definately be cheaper than the french alps, a couple of quid for a hotdog etc and a beer for about the same.
The Pesherita is accessable from the ski road, within the ability of most beginners, unlikely if you are having instruction with Ulen as they will keep you up at the top of the gondola, but if you are having private ski school its possible your instructor will take you down there. And yes, its going to be busy.

Thanks all. Looking forward to going - just hope it snows as it's looking a little sparse by all the comments. Razz
