It was shut on Wednesday too. There is a high risk of avalanche there at the moment due to the amount of snow and high winds so they are taking no chances.
The avalanche risk will be very high and as they had an avalanche last season they will be taking no chances. They do not close the mountain just for fun, they take peoples safety very seriously. Also today is the Independence Day holiday and there will be a lot of Bulgarians in resort so if it were at all possible to open the mountain up they would do it.
Val, Fair enough, I retract my comment Any idea how long it will remain closed for? Is it basicaly the wind that is causing the risk? I am off on the 11th, hope it is ok by then.
Does anyone know, if the weathers likely to get better or not? I understand the need for safety, I've never done this before, I'm worried enough about breaking something, the worry of possible avalanche would probably be a bit to much for me.
My sister used to rep in France - she said they would sometimes do controlled explosions to shift the snow when avalanche risk was high - any chance of that happening?
