For Steve C

Hi Steve,

I'm not all doom and gloom about the races in Bansko and think it will have a positive effect on tourism there. I simply would like a decent week skiing. In your honest opinion, the week that we are there, 17-23 Jan, how busy do you think it will be (I know the 22-23 will more than likely be extremely).

As i mentioned in an earlier post, as much as I would like to ski Tomba I can live without it as the chalin valog black is fun. I love Bansko but changing weeks is probably ...

As i mentioned in an earlier post, as much as I would like to ski Tomba I can live without it as the chalin valog black is fun. I love Bansko but changing weeks is probably not possible so I would like to know your opinions. I relied on your postings running up to our hol last season!

Thanks

Rach

Dan, i except the queues for the World Cup were long mostly due to the VIP's being allowed to bypass the line. I am not sure that this seasons events are World Cup, more likely Europa Cup, and if this is the case then if like previous seasons the queues will be no where as bad...
Rach, let me look into it, there is no referance to any World Cup events in Bansko on the FIS web site, if i can determine that they are Europa Cup then maybe i can advise with more fact based on previous seasons ...

The fact is that 9A is being re-opened, this slope is used for most slalom races. This does not mean that Tomba will be untouched, but perhaps will only account for a partial closure to allow racers to access the start area..

A footnote to the running of the World Cup, they closed the mountain road Mad This effectively robbed us of any means of getting to the skiing other than the gondola, this added to the numbers at the bottom, they have never done this for an Europa Cup event...

re: For Steve C

At the end of last week the international skiing federation FIS officially awarded Bansko four World Cup events for the next seasons:

On 26.-27. February 2011 Bansko will host the Super-G and the Slalom for Men

On 24.-25. February 2012 Bansko will host the Downhill and Super-G for Women.

Next year on 22.-23. January we will have two Slaloms for Men in the European Championship.

This is from the horses mouth, next season will be Europa Cup, 2nd string competition that should not attract the coverage nor the spectators of a World Cup event... but should i predict no queues ??? or inconvenience ??? I don't know, anything is possible. Personally based on pre-bookings i will be happy to see any queueing Smile because it will mean we have tourists, i have a feeling its going to be real tough next season !!!
Rach, its a case of `take your chances', it may not snow, it may snow to much, the gondola could break down, you could break your arm stepping off the plane... I am quite flattered you read what i write, and thank you... If i was to be pushed i would predict that you will have a great time, and if you get in touch i will make sure you do Cool
