Foreigners can't be charged more

I just read this in the latest issue of the Sofia Echo, and it says that Bulgarians cannot charge more for foreigners than bulgarians anymore. this is great news I think, its always left a bit of a bad taste that there's two prices there, more than double at times. Not legal in the EU. So if you ain't scaird of the mafia, challenge em.
cheers aido, (just back from pamps this morning)

Owners of hotels and restaurants have no right to charge different prices for Bulgarians and foreigners. This is envisaged in a new regulation by the Cabinet on the categorisation of hostels, accommodation places, restaurants and entertainment establishments, which entered into force a few days ago. The regulation refers the case to the Act on Protection against Discrimination, under which hotel owners and restaurateurs are obliged to charge the same prices to any guest no matter whether Bulgarian or foreigner.

That is good news for us tourists - but i got back from Pamps last weekend and was ripped off totally with the taxis there - it was a disgrace.

I still think thought, regardless of whatever the regulations say, they will always try to con a bit more out of us- and how do we ever know what the right price is??

After my experiences there this holiday, the way the Bulgarians treated us was dissappointing and certainly put a dampner on the holiday! One of these things i guess though . . .

re: Foreigners can't be charged more

I'm not sure if we could be happy about this, because first I can't believe that these regulation will become reality in the Resorts, because there is only a small number of Restaurants which have two menus, and secound we will have no better prices, or do you believe that the hotel managers, ski schools or the managment of the lifts and gondolas will decrease the prices????
Not really, so thats not our problem it is the problem of the inhabents, the bulgarians. So if the skischools pay for ...

Not really, so thats not our problem it is the problem of the inhabents, the bulgarians. So if the skischools pay for the lift passes a higher price you have to pay a higher charge for the lessons....

re: Foreigners can't be charged more

First, just make sure you book lessons etc before you leave as they cost lots more there.

The bulgarians are only trying to make a living, so charge what they think we will pay. As most of the cafe/bars charge the same up the slopes, I can only assume they get together to fix the prices.
All skiers will pay the same as I am sure the bulgarians skiing are the rich ones and so can afford it too. A day lift pass costs nearly as much as a weeks wage of some of the hotel staff.

re: Foreigners can't be charged more

If Bulgarians are charged the price of foreigners, thay cannot afford it.Because we,Bulgarians get a lot lower salaries than yours,so proces for us should be lower, too. We are in OUR country,so we need to be charged OUR prices. This is how it is in ALL countries, where disproportion of foregner/local income exists.
