BTV said that snow was likely throughout the north-east in coming days, but in several places precipitation would be weak, meaning light snow.
December 19 saw a "code yellow" weather warning issued for the Black Sea city of Bourgas, as well as Haskovo and Yambol. In some places, the rain was expected to fall at a rate of 20 litres a square metre, while in the region of Smolyan, heavy snow was expected and motorists should drive with chains fitted to their car tyres, Bulgarian National Television said.
