Chances of snow in Bulgaria on Christmas Day 2011 are said to be about 60 per cent but local weather forecasters are reluctant to be too firm in predicting a White Christmas.

In some places, the rain was expected to fall at a rate of 20 litres a square metre, while in the region of Smolyan, heavy snow was expected and motorists should drive with chains fitted to their car tyres, Bulgarian National Television said.
