Hi,

I'm from Belgium and I was wandering how much you guys (UKpeople) have to pay for a holiday in the french alps.

I went to Borovets at the end of Januar and stayed at the Moura and my whole skitrip costed me 750 euros. That includes everything. I loved the atmosphere and the people who were there, but the skiarea was a little disappointing for me. I knew that it wasn't gonna be the same like in France, but still.
There are also may good points, many cheap bars and almost no Dutchman.
In France it's the opposite, few bars with lovely prices and many Dutch people.

But still I'm returning to the alps next year. A skitrip to Tignes costed me 2 years ago 600 euros everyting included. Offcourse you don't travel by plane, you don't sleep in a hotel, you have to make your own dinner in your chalet( still much better than the " food?? " from the Moura) and you have to spend most of your evening in your own chalets, drinking and having fun with your friends. But the skiarea is fantastic, more than 300km of runs and many off-piste possibiltys.

And we can go even cheaper if we want to, the cheapest skitrips to the alps start from 450 euros.

If your a beginner you better of in BG but otherwise I only can recommend the Alps.

Hi Ben,

I too skied Tignes a few years ago and the facilities are unbelieveable. Bullet trains, gondolas everywhere and more ski runs than it is possible to ski in 1 week.

However, apart from the skiing I was bored to tears. Very little to do in the evenings apart from staying in your own, small hotel bar.

If skiing was all I wanted then Tegnes would be way up there on my list. But Pamporovo offers me so much more at a fraction of the price, and after many many years it still remains my most favourite place to ski.

i have been to tignes a number of times and agree that the runs are great and there is too much to do in a week.

I ahve just returned from Bansko ,my first time in Bulgaria and while the runs are not a s good as the French the overall experience was better.

Bansko is great but a bit difficult for beginners without green or easy blues.

so where in bulgaria or anywhere can i find easy greens and blues for a beginner without being in a totally overrun resort.

Bansko had great character!

Come to Pamporovo, but avoid going during the half term week which is really busy.

Outside of half term week the pistes are rarely packed (except maybe weekends when the locals join in,) and seldom are there many long queues for the lifts.

From the top of the mountain you can ski all the way to the bottom on blues and greens....... that's if you can pass all the wonderful resturants on the way.

I've been going there now for 13 years and it still does it for me, and many many others.

Hi PP,

I couldn't agree with you more, the skiing in Tignes is excellent but if you want to have some affordable partyevenings there's no better skicountry like BG.

I also will be returning to BG, because we made some Bulgarian friends. Next year I hope I can combine both of them. First one week some hard action on the snow and a second week in BG for some more hard action in the evening and a little bit less in the day.

Do you know if the Bulgarian resorts are going to expand in the next years, if they do you can count me in as a regular BG visitor.

There have been many plans to extend the resorts in Bulgaria, but each year it appears to be put back. The government seem to be putting a lot of money into Bansko and it is supposed to be the 'in' place of the future. Other plans that have been talked about in Pamporovo are...........

A gondola to run from the Perelik hotel to the ski depot.
A link-up between Pamporovo and Chepalare both ski lifts and runs.
More runs to be developed in Pamporovo and Chepalare.

All of these are yet to commence, but the increasing popularity of this resort means that if they do not start to improve facilities soon, the resort will be over-run.

Wealth is starting to become a new word in Bulgaria, and I cannot see them missing out on the opportunity to develop the winter tourist industry that is vital to the income of the Balkan region.

I only hope that any changes do not alter the magical atmosphere of this winter wonderland, and that it retains it's charm and beauty forever.
