Hello,
We are trying to get a week in Bansko in the next couple of weeks and looking for some advice on a couple of subjects.
Car Hire, can you rent a car locally in Bansko for a few days??
Are there any estate agents based in Bansko and can any agent sell any property or the sellars there under contract to certain agents??
Any recommended hotels that are open over the next 2 weeks. Will there be anything open. ie restaurants, supermarkets.
Would appreciate any advice ...

I would avoid car hire myself unless you speak Bulgarian, as most if not all signs are in Bulgarian only, and impossible to understand. Insurance is also very iffy and you MUST check to see what you are, and more importantly are not covered for if you intend to proceed.

Many thanks for the advice. I have made contact with company re this website.Think we will leave the car hire only for now based on your words..
Not having much success in trying to book a package ie flight and accommodation at this time. Guess its in between season now?? Do you know how much it would cost to get a taxi from Sofia to Bansko without being ripped off..

I've just returned from Bansko where I am buying an apartment. I hired a car ('oldish' 1.6 Golf) from Sofia airport, which cost 72 Euro for 3 days (Rentacar Tany) - fuel is approx. 75 cents per litre. Although the majority of road signs are in Bulgarian, it is possible to navigate by recognising certain symbols. Bansko is 160'ish km from Sofia and it should take you 2.5 to 3.5 hours depending on traffic and your navigational skills! Be careful, the maximum speed limit on the '1' or E79 is 90km/h and there are lots of police speed traps!! The road surfaces are very 'inconsistent' and Bulgarian driving habits are somewhat different to our own! I stayed at the Avalon Hotel in Bansko -very friendly, clean and good value.
