Was reading another post and fitness was mentioned. I cannot believe how each year so many people (including people who have travelled with me!) don't do any sort of preperation for skiing, and wind up either going home early, ending up in plaster or worse putting someone else in plaster! Get fit before you go guys - it's so much more enjoyable for you, and indeed for everyone if you have done some sort of fitness prep! Start your training now, and get ready to hit the slopes soon.

I totally agree. People spend hard earned money on their annual ski holidays but don't bother getting fit so that they can enjoy their ski holiday that much more and with a reduced chance of getting injured. Also, they generally get so knackered by lunch time that they stop skiing - sacrilege I say!!
Any advice on exercises or links to pre season programmes? I'm in my intensive 'left it too late to make much difference' sessions of alternating one day in the gym (an hour on the bike followed by an hour of mostly leg weights) and one day at home (stretching and core body on the swiss medicine ball). I have no idea whether this is really doing anything as I'm in agony at the beginning of every season. And I still have a gut.
The swiss ball is fab for core strength and personally made a huge difference for me , but I am in a class with an excellent trainer at my local gym who pushes to the max. Maybe more cardio - and mix it up a bit as if you do the bike every other night it stops working after a while - and work on the whole bod not just the legs. Try totalsurfingfitness.com ( I know(!), but it's similar and he does have some good stuff and all FOC). As for the gut, cut out booze - I tried it and it worked ...

I have had a personal trainer for the last couple of years and switched to "ski mode" for a few months prior to skiing. It worked brilliantly. I was fitter and skied better than ever before. He concentrated a lot on core work and balance.Highly recommended.
