Getting to Bansko

We fancy a trip to Bansko this year (thanks to the recommends on my previous thread!), but we also fancy trying to book it ourselves rather than package it.

Is it worth booking accom before we go, or can you pick it up when you arrive? Is it more cost effective to book through an agent, or direct with the Hotel/Appt?

I know it's 160km from Sofia, say 3 hrs drive, but was wondering what the best way to get to it is? Is there a regular bus or train service, or maybe a taxi (maybe a bit ...

Any thoughts? Many Thanks

Hi, if it helps we did exactly that last year and saved a fortune plus ended up in a really great hotel which was the friendliest place we have ever stayed in. We booked our flights with first choice really cheap but try wizz air to sofia. Have a look on the internet for the Hotel Avalon, sorry can't remember their exact web address. The hotel is run by James who is a superb english guy and Vanya his lovely bulgarian wife. James will arrange a taxi transfer for you which was superb and ...

The hotel is run by James who is a superb english guy and Vanya his lovely bulgarian wife. James will arrange a taxi transfer for you which was superb and took about 2 and a half hours in a really decent car. That cost about £100 return for the two of us and the hotel is very reasonable about £30 or less for a double room per night with breakfast. Well recomended, enjoy!!!

re: Getting to Bansko

Only me just read that you've been to Borovets, we have gone for that for March as we have got out 2 young girls with us this time who are 2 and 4 and thought Borovets seemed to have better creche facilities to get them started. Staying in the Iglika villas, do you know of them and any good recomendations for good places to eat etc??? Cheers, Dawn

re: Getting to Bansko

I always prefer to organise my own holidays - you are not then restricted to a sat-sat holiday.
There are loads of new apartments in Bansko so availability should not be a problem (unless you are thinking about christmas/new year!)
Taxi is the fastest way up to Bansko, although the public bus can be used (10leva each way).
You can book apartments on this site or get in touch if you want help with anything else

Another site to try for flights is e-bookers, we got a reasonable price for February.

re: Getting to Bansko

I have been going to Bansko for 15 years and helped build a small resort with my very good friend who i still see every year. His name is Metin and he is currently renting his chalets out during the season, he has deals which include pick ups from the airport along with accommodation, ski hire, lift pass, breakfast and dinner along with evening entertainment. His rates are very good
and i dont think you will find better. If you are interested, please e-mail me and we will talk.
