Getting excited off to Borovets on Thursday, staying in Chalets just behind the Moura hotel can't believe how deep the snow is, hope that it stays all week, and doesn't melt before we get chance to enjoy it. Anyone else going at this time?
I went to borovets last year in similar conditions, the problems were most pistes were unprepared, pistes that were not open were not signposted, I have never skiied in worse conditions or more dangerous conditions before.
Crystal were helpful they offered a refund for skischool/ski hire but then said it will be very expensive to sort these out in resort if you cancel then the resort opens properly ...
good luck
Dont look at the depth feel the quality
make sure you are well insured

In 10 years I have bever seen so many people 'ambulanced' off the slopes.
There were rocks, trees sticking up through the snow which was largely uncompacted and very difficult to ski on, the resort should have not been open until the pistes had been prepared.
We booked last year because bulgaria loked good value for money, but there is no saving when you are skiing on poorly marked and unprepared piste.
I am a pleasure skier who enjoys nice red runs and a few beers.
I did not enjoy borovets last year in december as the conditions were very poor.
People, food, drinks were excellent, the skiing was very very poor.
No doubt I will be castigated on this site as everyone seems to worship bulgaria.
I learned to ski in pamparova and had a wonderful time, but last year was awful, because of the dangerous conditions.
Hopefully the piste crunchers will have been out, for all your sakes, and not just to carry the unwary to hospital.
I for one will not retrurn to bulgaria except maybe for a cheap week in late season.
Hopefully I am wrong and this year they manage to prepare the piste
I think I got a bit of a bashing (excuse the pun) for commenting on the quality of the pistes last season, but I was just calling it as I saw it. I'm sure lessons are being learnt every year by those in charge of the resorts. Bulgaria of course is behind Italy, France, Austria etc in terms of catering for foreign skiiers and no doubt the public sector investment is not plentiful given Bulgaria is not a rich country.

yep, fingers crossed!

I still had a brill holiday though, and it hasn't put me off - I'm back in Boro in 13 days' time!
Off to Boro on the 24th Dec & you guys are scarying the pants off me !
Someone out there please tell me that the pistes will be ready on time so that I can relax & get in the mood for some serious sliding down the mountains on me backside. not fogeting some seriuos
I read with interest the comments made by Paul and tend to agree, although I would say if the ski schools are open and you have an instructor and stay with the group you should be fine.We went to boro last year in jan and suffered the opposite problem with the snow melting and the runs turning to grass and mud,but staying with the instuctor kept us out of trouble.Like Paul says the runs are not to well signed and its easy to go the wrong way and into trouble,we too are pleasure skiers and ...

ps.. good honest report from Paul
