Gold for the 1924 Mens Curling Team
OK So not quite in 2006, but the IOC has awarded the men's curling team of 1924 with a gold medel.
Curling was effectively a demonstration sport back then, but the IOC have upgraded them to official status after investigations by a Scottish regional newspaper.
The successful British team that defeated France and Sweden could not defend their title as the sport was removed from the Olympic Winter Games, until the Nagano games of 1998. ...

In all games GB has now won 20 medels of which 8 are gold.
The Head of Britian's Winter Sports Commission has given the goal of one medel of any colour for this season's athletes in Torino.
Good news for British Winter Sports ... perhaps a omen for more to come!
