All the bg resorts getting the canons on at every opportunity , looks like last year has taught them to be better prepared and much more proffesional . Hats off to them lets hope Mother Nature can back them up with regular dumps to keep conditions good .
To be fair to them John, snow cannons can normally only be used when temps are between -2 and -10.
Any warmer and the droplets will not form snow crystals and any colder would only produce ice.
Yeah i know that pete but last years problem was that borovets didnt have enough canons which they put right in the summer in a big way and bansko kept running out of water so this season its's good to see them all running when they should be :-)
It certainly makes good business sense to "invest" and it's great to see in Borovets that BoroSport have done this after last years debacle!
It's shaping up to be a great season!
Enjoy! and keep dancing......
This is where Pamporovo has really changed over the last 3 seasons, cannons are on wherever and whenever possible and the piste management is great. This resulted in many tourists coming from Borovets to Pamporovo so they might have learnt their lesson.
I think you'll find several of the tour operators have some vested interest in the cannons, not just in Bulgaria but many other
resorts where snow can be a problem. If they can get just one slope open it avoids them having to pay out for resort closures
and actually saves them thousands during poor winters.
Still extremely useful for us all, but a double edged sword.
Double edged sword or not Pamporovo have been excellent in their piste management over the last few years I cannot fault them. Hope they keep up the good work as we are are out end of the month. Have fun evryone
I know what you're saying pete but all the resorts had at leSt one slope open all last season , so resorts were open . It looks like borosport and ulen are making a proper effort to provide the best service they can , or am I just green as grass ? :-)

Agree with this, four years ago I was kicking off about fallen trees on the pistes, un groomed pistes, snow cannons not working in Pamporovo but that has significantly changed, the pistes have been in amazing condition even with minimum snow.

Also there used to be problems with daft prices at mountain restaurants, not getting the right change etc and that too has changed. They've really upped their game in the last three years, coincides with the new bike park, freestyle competitions etc.
Last year in Borovets, the cannons were on for several weeks before the season opened due to cold temperatures. The person who runs the ski runs (Georgi) nearly lost his job as initially it was thought it was a waste of money to run them so early, however if they hadn't have been on, the situation would have been far worse as such high temperatures melted everything and they could not get them back on as soon as the season started. Luckily there was enough snow to at least keep something ...

It wouldn't have mattered if there were cannons on every run....they could not work because temperatures were too high for nearly all the season - you only need to look at last years weather for this. Pamps actually had colder temperatures than Borovets, hence they could run them more.
