Whats the grub like in the Rila???
and are the apartments pleasant and comfortable??
and one last one what about the currency, can we survive with sterling until we get there and then change some into local currency?
Hi Iron Mike and Dan, now i understand that you lads are just there for the skiing and beer, and the ride if your lucky, but, i have to consider the finer things when taking the wife and kids etc, so that is why my questions may seem a bit lame, thanks for taking the time out to answer them, cheers.......
Grub in The Rila isn't great. Breakfast is edible and a bit of a mad rush but for dinner you are best eating out. Its very cheap and you could feed a familiy of 4 for £20 easiliy.
The place is comfortable but if you are facing the slopes take ear plugs as the bars stay open all night, well 5am at least it it can be noisy. Isn't a problem for me as I usually pass out by 5am!!
Get some leva before you go if you can, Lunn Poly do them I think. Sterling will ...
To add finer points....

We have always flown to Sofia and the transfer is just over an hour. We have only ever taken £ and changed when we get there. Exchange rate in resort in Feb was 2.7+ which was better than in UK.
I had the same though as you about just taking sterling out (and no leva). We went out there with Crystal and the Thomson girl exchanged money on the coach at a very good rate £10 -> for 30 Leva. (it was a one off though).
If you arrive at the hotle before 9pm then your ok, but we arrived there at about 11:00pm so the £10 was enough for a few rounds of drinks before the next day.
