Hey King Blade, the Milky Way (where I went) was pretty good. There was no snowfall while I was there but the snow that fell on the 8th December was still intact due to the freezing temperatures and the 900 odd ski cannons that kept the pistes topped up nicely. This all made for very compact and very fast pistes which were great for practising your carving and racing. There was, however, also quite a bit of ice around (not the nasty glass ice which was good) but didn't cause too much hassle ...

Believe it or not there was even a limited amount of off-piste skiing (powder) in the Sauze D'oulx area which was a surprise given that it was still there from the 8th December.

It goes without saying that ALL of the alps is in desperate need of a good dump of snow which you will see when you fly over the alps. Saying that, I know that Spain ski resorts have had a huge dump and that the HP system has started to shift and there is a LP moving in and travelling eastwards over the alps, so you may even get brilliant conditions by the time you go.

Which resort are you off to?

Cheers H - off to La Thuile (La Tweel!!) in a couple of weeks - it's a border resort so you can ski into La Rosiere on the French side if you want (??).

They've had a massive dump on Tues this week and also again today so I reckon we should be okay as the HP base will have packed quite nicely.

Were you impressed with the set-up over there?

Cheer

Yeah, I would recommend Sestriere and the rest of the Milky Way (400km of runs!). There isn't much for the total beginner though and some of the reds and blacks will test even the most advanced of skiers.
If I am really picky, I probably wouldn't rate their ski schools. I reckon that the ski instructors in Bansko are much better than the instructors I saw and skied with in Sestriere (they still ski on those old straight ski's and not carvers!!!!)
